Double Dragon III

I think I would rather sleep in a dumpster.

Review Date: May 2, 2021

Release Date: February 1, 1991

Platform: NES

Publisher: Acclaim

Genre: Beat ‘Em Up

Anecdotes:

Description: I’m not really sure what the plot is, but it has something to do with Marion, who got killed in the previous game, getting captured again. Don’t try to make sense of it. Just beat up anyone who comes by, although it’ll be game over by the third screen.

Positives: I do like the fact that Acclaim dropped the control scheme from II and reverted back to the first game’s control. The jump mechanic still sucks, and I really don’t know if it’s required at any point, but it’s an improvement. Of course, that’s like going from the Detroit Tigers to the Kansas City Royals, but I digress.

Negatives:

-I’m trying to follow along, but the plots have more holes than the road near the mall. Jimmy is the final boss of I, so how is he teaming up with Billy after that? Marion dies in II, so how is she getting captured in III? I mean, the plots don’t really mean much in a beat ’em up game like this, but it would be nice if they got their acts together.

-To describe the difficulty of this game, picture Adventure Island, but on Hard Mode. I honestly don’t know how or if anyone got past mission 1. I sure didn’t. There are no continues and no extra lives. There’s no chance of any new player getting past anything.

Screenshots:

It’s obvious this game came from Japan. Japan is practically the center of the map.
This is the furthest I got. How embarrassing.

Final Opinion: Don’t play this game. DON’T PLAY THIS GAME.

Grade: F
