Description: This continues the Sonic tradition and plays just like the previous games.

Positives:

  • Thank God they added a save system! This was long overdue and should have happened two games ago. It’s still quite flawed, but the fact that it exists at all is a major improvement.
  • The ring system has been kept in tact; Sonic can not be killed by damage as long as he has at least one ring. I assume Sonic can still fall down holes, but I didn’t find any in the part I played.

Negatives:

  • The save system I mentioned above didn’t help me at all because I got stuck in a body of water in Act 2 of Angel Island. After Sonic suffocated, I ran out of lives. The game sent me all the way back to the start. These stages are too long to have a system like this. I had to go back through the first two areas again, plus beat the boss (miniboss?) again. That boss isn’t tough at all, but I shouldn’t have to keep defeating it over and over.

Screenshots:

Come on, let’s fight!
Let me jump right on that.
Wasn’t there an NES game like this?
They borrowed this from Pitfall, but this looks much better.

Final Opinion: I can’t make heads or Tails of this. What I did see was all right.

Grade: C
